Alexis Milne explores the role of the artist as activist through performance and video. Milne's work uses alter egos, the grotesque, and parody as tools to comment on hierarchies of abuse and the powerless position of the individual.

The video series The Delinquents resulted from investigations into subcultural movements that Milne was influenced by in his youth, such as skinheads, graffiti art, and raving. Drawing inspiration from semiotic analysis by Jean Baudrillard and Dick Hebdige, this series addresses 'delinquent' self- destructive behaviour manifested through a disenfranchised distance from society.

Part one, Jobseekers, features Tim Roth's performance as skinhead in Alan Clarke's 1980s film Made in Britain. By situating himself within the film, and by using layered sampling, re-projection and physical screen manipulation, Alexis Milne reinvigorates the original footage, resulting in a fragmentary abstracted regurgitation of Roth's nihilistic gestures. A month after finishing Jobseekers, London witnessed an outburst of rioting reminiscent of inner-city civil unrest from previous decades and fuelled by similar themes.

Alexis Milne (UK, 1973), recent winner of the Start Point Prize for emerging artists, holds an MFA from Goldsmiths University of London, and a degree in North American Socio-political Studies from the University of Manchester. He lives and works in London.
